What to look for in a crypto cashback card
Headline cashback rates are the easiest thing to advertise and the easiest to overstate, so read them carefully. When we score a rewards card, three things matter more than the top number:
- The real rate vs the headline. Many cards advertise an "up to" figure that only applies at the highest tier, on limited categories, or up to a monthly cap. Check the base rate you would actually earn.
- What you have to lock up. Some of the biggest rates require staking or holding a large amount of the provider’s own token. That is a real cost and a real risk if the token falls.
- What the fees claw back. A 2% reward is wiped out by a 3% foreign-transaction fee. We weight fees more heavily than rewards for exactly this reason.
Crypto cashback vs stablecoin cashback
Rewards paid in a volatile coin can be worth more — or less — by the time you use them. Rewards paid in a stablecoin are predictable. Neither is automatically better; it depends on whether you want exposure or certainty.
