What beginners should prioritise

If this is your first crypto card, favour simplicity and support over squeezing out the highest rewards. That usually means a card from an established, regulated provider you already use, with a straightforward app, clear fees and responsive help. Most beginner-friendly cards are custodial — the provider handles the wallet for you, which is easier to start with even if it means trusting them with your balance.

Watch the basics

  • KYC. Reputable cards require identity verification — that is normal and a good sign, not a red flag. Be wary of “no-KYC” cards that promise anonymity.
  • Fees. Learn the real cost of spending — the FX fee and any conversion spread matter more than the headline cashback.
  • Tax. In many countries, spending crypto is a taxable event. Keep records.
