How We Rate Crypto Cards
Every crypto card on CryptoCardScout is judged against the same criteria and given a single score out of 10. We do this so that comparisons are fair: a card cannot rank higher by paying us, and two cards are always measured the same way. This page explains exactly how that score is built.
The six things we score
A card’s overall score is a weighted average of six categories. The weights reflect what actually matters to someone spending crypto day to day — cost first, then what you get back and how usable the card really is.
| Category | Weight |
|---|---|
| Fees & real cost (issuance, FX, ATM, top-up, hidden spreads) | 25% |
| Rewards & cashback (rate, currency, conditions) | 15% |
| Supported crypto & networks (coins, chains, card networks) | 15% |
| Availability & onboarding (countries, KYC, funding) | 15% |
| Everyday usability (Apple/Google Pay, app, limits, support) | 15% |
| Trust, security & transparency (custody model, regulation, track record) | 15% |
How the numbers work
- 0–10 scale. Each category is scored, then combined by the weights above. We publish the final figure on every card, e.g. 8.2/10.
- Cost is weighted highest because a generous cashback rate is meaningless if fees quietly claw it back. We look at the effective cost of spending, not just the headline “no annual fee”.
- Self-custody and transparency count. A card that lets you keep your own keys, or that publishes clear terms, scores better on trust than an opaque custodial product.
Where our data comes from
Card details are taken from the issuer’s own documentation, terms and fee schedules — not from marketing pages alone. Each card profile shows a “verified” date: the day we last checked its data against the source. If we have not been able to confirm a figure, we mark the card’s data as being verified and show that clearly rather than guessing.
What does not affect a score
- Affiliate relationships. Some links on this site are affiliate links (see our disclosure). Whether a card pays a commission has no bearing on its score or ranking.
- Payment for placement. We do not sell positions in our rankings or “sponsored #1” slots.
Keeping scores current
Crypto card programs change constantly — fees move, rewards get cut, cards launch and shut down. We re-check cards on a rolling basis and update both the data and the score, refreshing the “verified” date when we do. If you spot something out of date, please tell us and we will re-verify it.
CryptoCardScout provides independent research and comparison, not financial advice. Always confirm current terms with the issuer before applying.
